How to Identify a Leader

Managers are not necessarily leaders. Everyone has their own definition, this is my understanding of a leader:

Strong leaders…

  • Give every room and meeting they walk into a burst of energy
  • Request your ideas
  • Ask for your feedback on the company’s culture
  • Follow up on, or act on the feedback you share
  • Set boundaries and respect yours
  • Offer praise in public, and discipline in private
  • Are transparent about their plans
  • Share wins and business success
  • Give credit where credit is due
  • Take an interest in your life outside of work
  • Rarely schedule meetings over lunch
  • Dive into the day-to-day weeds when they’re needed
